Just for the Girls

Balmoral Hall's specialized education results in more than just academic success

INFORMATIONAL SUPPLEMENT

Girls and boys learn differently, and as an all-girls school, Balmoral Hall School in Winnipeg is able to provide academic and co-curricular programming specifically designed to enhance and build upon the ways girls learn and interact. Open to children as young as two years old in their childcare program to Grade 12 students preparing for university education, the school goes beyond the academics to teach girls the importance of staying connected with not only each other, but also the community.

Martin Lussier, Balmoral Hall’s communications co-ordinator, explains the benefits of attending an all-girls school versus a co-gendered school. “Whether it’s in the science lab or on the rugby pitch, girls here enjoy not just equal opportunity but every opportunity to try different things, take academic risks and take on every challenge without fear of gender stereotyping,” he says.

Among the school’s leading offerings is its stellar hockey program. Twenty-six graduates of the BH varsity prep team are playing at the CIS and NCAA level on academic and athletic scholarships, while members of the junior varsity team have been named 10 times to the Winnipeg Women’s High School Hockey League all-star team.

Aside from crucial academic skills, study habits, critical thinking and self-expression skills, Lussier says Balmoral Hall graduates develop friendships and community-building skills that last a lifetime. “Many of our alumnae stay connected with their classmates well after graduation. Critical relationship-building skills, coupled with the aforementioned academic preparation, high levels of technological literacy and a passion for innovation, describe but a few of the things that our graduates develop during their time here.”

Star Athletes

While Balmoral Hall covers the basics such as volleyball, basketball, soccer and badminton, it’s their stellar hockey program that takes the lead. There’s no doubt they take athletics seriously, and with a mission to prepare student athletes for university by integrating academics with a highly developed athletic program, students leave Balmoral with the skills and strength to take-on any challenge.
